Huggable Germ Carrier by Susan Handle Terbay

This weekend I spent a lot of time with the youngest in our family. At the age of three he of course is the one who holds everyone’s heart in his little hands. His smile is captivating and his hugs are worth every moment no matter how long or short and his delightful giggles and conversations are treasures.
As we waited at my daughter’s home for her return from a youth conference, I had to toe the line according to house rules of this youngest in the family. When I was talking to one of my other children on the phone I said the word ‘damn’ and upon hearing it was scolded by him for saying a bad word. I said I was sorry and his response was ‘okay Naanaa but don’t say it again!’ Noted and remembered!
Then he wanted to watch a movie so I had to figure out the dvd player. Again, taking note that his grandmother was not ‘techy’ he said, ‘Naanaa, you need both ‘mote’ controls silly!’ After he showed me how to work them we watched a movie.
I’m home today from work feeling rather punky – fighting a cold or something along that line and I realized that while my youngest is cute and cuddly he is also a huggable germ carrier because I believe I’m feeling this way because he too is feeling this way earlier in the weekend.
Well if I must get sick at least I’m getting sick because of hugs and kisses from a very special little boy, one of the cutest germ carriers ever created!!

Susan Terbay - Susan Handle Terbay shares, "As I look back over my life I have come to some profound conclusions. The most valuable gift both given and received is love. Throughout my life I have been blessed with the wisdom of children, the wisdom of the elderly and especially the wisdom of the dying. Not one person on their death bed wished they had made more money or worked more hours. They all wished they would have spent more time with their loved ones, enjoyed the beauty of this world and taken a chance to love someone. I learned so much in my life and have faced some difficult challenges. I hope that maybe something I write touches another and reminds someone they are never alone in this world - someone understands, someone has been down the same path and always God is within each of us. Of all the experiences in my life the greatest gifts I have ever received were six precious lives who came into my life and forever changed me. . From the moment each were placed in my arms at their birth, my children have taught me about life and love. Now the gifts continue with my beautiful grandchildren as I await to listen to their stories yet to be told, and their wisdom yet to be learned. Motherhood is a gift - something to be treasured - always."
